Art Journal #2 | Art

Books are the key to my heart. Well that along with chocolate and ice cream and... well you get the idea. I love them. So they had to feature as a page in my art journal! I had a load of fun with this page and used it as an experiment for testing out materials

Books

Materials | Another mixed media project. Well more like an experiment. My books page turned fully experimental with the materials I used. A mix of cardboard, paint, pens, pastels, and tea/coffee staining went into this page. I wanted to see how the elements mixed with each other and what I would want to use in the future of my journal.

Story | I wanted to be able to open the page up like a book. One of the best feelings in the world is too open a new book. Books open up to different worlds and characters so I wanted to add this magical and mystery to the page by making my open front cover. I love the look of old books so I stained the pages for that old and used feel. I made a lock as well because who doesn't love a good old spell book vibe with a golden lock!

Inside you get a whole new world *sing that like Aladdin* haha.

This is where the experimentation comes into the story! At first I was going to stain the paper like I did for the front cover, then I thought it would be too much of the same thing. While I love a good, old looking book, I wanted to show the feeling I get when I open one. One of colour and excitement! So I grabbed my pastels, crushed some in my finger all over the pages, pressed down and viola fireworks

I've also drawn a few books over the page and glued down quotes I typed in a typewriter font because the font is awesome. All quotes about a love of books of course!

Quotes;

In books I have traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own. Anna Quindler

So many books, so little time. Franks Zappa

Some books you read, some books you enjoy, but some books just swallow you up heart and soul. Joanne Harris

She reads books as one would breath air, to fill up and live. Annie Dillard

You know you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend. Paul Sweeney

I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book. JK Rowling

Another page done and dusted! I still have a billion ideas for pages and can't wait to make them and show it to you all. I hope they give you motivation to create you own and inspiration to the types of pages you can create!

Show me any pages you have done with your love of books! I'm going to making book/quote specific pages in the future so give me any inspiration!

Love Always,
